About Del Lewellyn

Biography

Del Llewellyn

Since turning professional in 2018, Del has worked with some of the best-loved and well-known sports people on the planet. Specialising in pencil drawings, each stroke is delivered with precision and passion to match that of his subjects.

Born in Salisbury, England in 1985, Del spent the first chapter of his life growing up in Germany. Struggling to learn both English and German, Del found it hard to communicate and often found himself alone in his own world. It was here where he started to find a passion for art, and with the support of his parents, was given permission to draw….all the time.

Aged eight, Del returned to England and his art was starting to thrive, along with his passion for football. The two were a match made in heaven and Del spent nearly all of his days until the age of 16 combining the two. Del was very academic but always lacked focus because he was always drawing, everywhere and on anything. This passion for drawing led him to gain his only qualification in art – an A in GCSE.

From then, Del did not pick up a pencil again until the age of 32 where his flame for art was slowly starting to reignite. Realising that drawing was the creative talent he was born with, he changed career to enable more time to practice his craft and in 2018, he quit his job to become a full-time artist.

Del found great satisfaction being given the opportunity to draw sentimental portraits for his clients, both human and four-legged, however in 2019 when, in between commissions, Del drew a portrait of now England International and Aston Villa captain Tyrone Mings, everything changed for the amateur artist.

Since that moment, Del has been personally commissioned by Premier League footballers, worked for Premier League Productions on a programme that was televised across the globe, worked for the BBC and is now becoming a well-known name in the world of sports memorabilia, whose portraits have been signed by Sir Geoff Hurst, Eric Cantona, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Jack Grealish, Xavi Hernandez and Lionel Messi.

Del’s work has rapidly changed over the past few years, however he has never veered far from his preferred medium of graphite and charcoal portraits. Del has a huge passion for capturing moments that evoke emotion and memory and, through his own self development, is entering the realms of hyper realism, capturing an athlete’s aura in the process.
